There are myriad benefits that derive from studying Tae Kwon Do. On a student’s first day of class, many students are excited, some are shy, but by the end of class all students can’t wait to come back for more.

This is what TaeKwonDo can do for you:

  • Enhance self-esteem by heightening physical and mental abilities.
  • Build confidence by encouraging you to succeed to take control of your life.
  • Develop discipline via thorough training of your body and mind in the tenets and techniques of Tae Kwon Do.
  • Gain self-defense skills by training to recognize situations in which physical self-defense may be necessary, and by teaching you how to turn such situations to your advantage.
  • Strengthen your body and mind through increased physical conditioning and mental discipline.

These skills build character, develop greatness, and encourage accomplishment by developing the habit of continually challenging yourself.

TaeKwonDo and Other Sports

Does your child love football, soccer, basketball…? It doesn’t matter what the sport, TaeKwonDo is the perfect complement to your child’s other sports activities. Whereas most sports are seasonal, TaeKwonDo is a year-round activity, meaning your child is receiving fitness training even during the off-seasons. In addition, while other sports change coaches and team membership from season to season, at Majest your child will develop long-term relationships and new friendships with peers and instructors that last over a period of many years. And finally, Majest TaeKwonDo is a terrific way to improve cardio fitness, strength, agility, speed, balance, and coordination — many of our parents report that their children take their other sports games “to the next level” after practicing TaeKwonDo. Other sports coaches tell us that Majest students are the most disciplined and focused members of their teams. If your child loves sports, you and your child both are going to love Majest.

“My son started Taekwondo at Majest while he was in first grade. He was very shy and one of the smaller boys in his grade. He never liked team sports but always enjoyed challenging himself in life. Nick has learned discipline, patience and the arts of Taekwondo. He has grown leaps and bounds and is currently in his 6th year at our dojang. There are so much to learn and to achieve in Taekwondo! Visit our dojang and meet the ‘Majest Family’ you won’t be disappointed.” – M.V.

TaeKwonDo is a uniquely Korean martial art, and is the most-practiced martial art in the world, with an estimated 70 million people in over 150 countries now practicing TaeKwonDo. As with other martial arts, there are many styles of TaeKwonDo; the style practiced by Majest is principally World Taekwondo Federation style (the same style that is competed in the Olympics) with older, more traditional elements incorporated into our curriculum as well.

When our Majest students achieve Black Belt, they are awarded “dan certificates” from Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters, located in Seoul, South Korea. Not all TaeKwonDo schools in the world are qualified to issue these kinds of certificates, but all Majest locations are qualified to award these highly-coveted credentials. These credentials ensure that your child’s Black Belt is recognized at any Olympic-style taekwondo school, anywhere in the world! Years from now, when your child goes off to college or relocates to a new job, they will be able to continue practicing TaeKwonDo at any Kukkiwon-affiliated school in the world, safe in the knowledge that their years of training at Majest will still be recognized by their new school.

Taegeuk Poomsae

At Majest, we teach a fully modern TaeKwonDo curriculum, augmented with traditional TaeKwonDo techniques and training. During our TaeKwonDo classes, we teach both the English and Korean names for most of the TaeKwonDo techniques that we teach. Why? The best TaeKwonDo schools around the world practice this same habit, so that when students visit other countries they can still practice TaeKwonDo and understand the instructions. Plus, the use of Korean terminology (along with English terminology) is a fun way for students to get a hint of exposure to another major world culture.

Several times each year, Majest students are permitted to try-out for membership in the Majest Leadership Team. Leadership Team members are chosen not only for their excellence in TaeKwonDo, but also for their maturity, focus, respect, and discipline. These students are provided FREE additional training in the finer points of TaeKwonDo technique, the culture and history of TaeKwonDo, the meaning of Leadership in our society, and the best techniques for teaching TaeKwonDo. In return, these Leadership Team members assist at regular TaeKwonDo classes during the week, where they have an opportunity exercise their new skills by leading small-group practices and by assisting the Majest instructors. The Majest Leadership Team is an outstanding way to help budding leaders of tomorrow’s generation develop and hone now the leadership skills that will carry them through to success throughout their life.

Black Belt Club

IMG_8745The Majest Black Belt Club is an optional 3-year membership contract for evening taekwondo members (2-years for our After School students) for the exact same price as a regular enrollment! We are so confident that you will enjoy the benefits of our Black Belt Club that members who sign up for the Club have their contracts retroactively started to the date of their original Majest membership! (For example, if you’ve already been a month-to-month member of Majest for 12 months, that 3-year contract becomes a 2-year contract instead.) That way you can be absolutely positive about the benefits of Majest to you before you make such a commitment.

What are the benefits of the Black Belt Club?

  • UNLIMITED classes (6 days a week). After-school students can attend any applicable evening taekwondo classes they’d like, including Saturday classes for extra training. (UNLIMITED classes apply even during the summer break for our After School students!)
  • A special Black Belt Club uniform. This is a premium quality uniform, with “Black Belt Club” design and special patch.
  • 10% off all equipment purchases, and 30% off all birthday parties – if you already know that you plan to stick with Majest for the long run, our Black Belt Club actually costs less than a regular membership — and offers so much more!
  • Ongoing special promotions/discounts for black belt club members. If you’re confident that your student would like to continue his/her taekwondo training to Black Belt and beyond, it is definitely worth considering enrollment in this program.

More information is available at the Majest front desk; please feel free ask any questions you might have!

Majest practices the World Taekwondo Federation style of TaeKwonDo, the same style practiced in the Olympic and Paralympic games. Our Majest Black Belts received dan certification from Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters in Seoul, South Korea. This is important for two reasons: it allows your Black Belt child to relocate in future years to any Kukkiwon-affiliated TaeKwonDo school (anywhere in the world!) while still maintaining their TaeKwonDo rank; and it qualifies your child to participate as a Black Belt in tournaments sponsored by the World Taekwondo Federation and USA Taekwondo (the TaeKwonDo branch of Team USA).

Each year at Majest, our competition teams are regular competitors at tournaments across the U.S., and we believe that tournament participation is a terrific way to further foster focus, discipline, sportsmanship, and success. Tryouts for our competition teams occur several times throughout the year; if your child is looking for opportunities in tournament-level competition, Majest is the place for you!

TaeKwonDo for Self-Defense

At Majest, we incorporate self-defense techniques into our mainstream classes, but with special emphasis on self-defense in our Teen & Adult classes and our Black Belt Club classes. TaeKwonDo first-and-foremost is a martial art, with self-defense as an intrinsic part of its foundation. Our self-defense instruction, generally geared toward older and longer-term students, emphasizes a holistic approach to self-defense that includes awareness of your surroundings and de-escalation of confrontations. In all cases, we teach the importance of safety and respect above all.

Our TaeKwonDo program at Majest is thoroughly well-rounded, where students of all interests and skill-levels will find something that they enjoy, whether it be self-defense instruction, practice in tournament-style sparring, forms (“poomsae”) practice, board-breaking, or just general fitness and fun. Whichever aspects of martial arts you enjoy most, there’s a Majest class for you!

Majest Self Defense

Majest practices the most popular style of the most popular martial art in the world: Kukkiwon / World Taekwondo Federation (Olympic) taekwondo. Because we practice a mainstream martial art, there are many outstanding sources of additional information. Here are some of our favorites:

  • The Kukkiwon homepage, and the Kukkwon techniques webpage.
  • The homepage of the World Taekwondo Federation, the governing body for Olympic taekwondo.
  • USA Taekwondo (USAT) – the taekwondo arm of Team USA, the U.S.’s Olympic team, and the U.S.’s National Governing Body (NGB) under the World Taekwondo Federation.
  • The Taekwondo Wiki, a valuable reference source for all things related to TaeKwonDo.
